Graduate Student Emily Scarpa Wins Award

Emily Scarpa, a graduate student and histopathology technician at HSRL entered a poster entitled "Ciliate xenomas in Crassostrea virginica from Great Bay, New Hampshire" for the 2009 National Shellfisheries Association convention in Savannah, Georgia. She was awarded a manual, Histological Techniques for Marine Bivalve Mollusks and Crustaceans, for the best student poster on diseases of shellfish. The manual, authored by Dorothy Howard, Earl Lewis, Jane Keller and Cecelia Smith of NOAA's Cooperative Oxford Laboratory, was donated to honor student research in shellfish pathology.
